From way up in the Eastern hills of Napa Valley, the altitude gives Her Majesty an aristocratic structure of soft, royal, velvety tannins; appropriately Pauillac in feel – King Richard II would approve – great black fruits, cassis and blackberry, combined with spice, cedar and tobacco with a kiss of truffle. Blackberries, black currant, plum and cherry, dark cocoa, tobacco, cedar, vanilla and with a finish as long as the Hundred Years War.

One day in 2009, when I was consulting for Dr. Jan Krupp’s Stagecoach Vineyard, the good doctor he gestured across the entire spread and told me to choose any block (from 760 acres) I wanted for Pott Wine. I didn’t hesitate; “M5, M6.” ……There was a strangled silence, but it was too late and he is too much of a gentleman. I seized the crown!
