Agnès Sorel is a no-added-sulphur, natural wine of organically grown Cabernet Franc from Mt. Veeder. This wine contains only the sulphur produced in its own fermentation and allows the purest expression of what our mountain vineyard has to give. Fermented in open top wooden vats and aged for one year or more in terracotta amphorae.
The 2022 vintage was the most perfect example yet of the majesty of our ridge-top mountain site. Everything we love about it played a vital role in allowing our grapes to thrive in a year that many found challenging.
The late season heat was hardly a blip. Our elevation and marine influence cushioned the diurnal extremes of temperature that the valley experienced, and our south-eastern exposure meant that we were faced away from, and shaded against, the late afternoon blasts of sun. The hot sunny final weeks of our season only served to amplify the attributes that we all know and love about our wines.
In the glass, the first thing that strikes you is their distinct purity; the balance of their aromatic fruit, floral, spice and savory characters meshes into a perfect singularity and just sings a clear, beautiful note. There’s ideal acidity there too, because the vineyard’s smooth, temperate season gave the grapes time to develop slowly and without panicking. The relative warmness of 2022 has given our wines a deep, plush richness, and supple fine-grained tannin.
2022: Violet, porcini, forest floor, black currant, Boysenberry, black licorice, raspberry and smoked duck. The attack is super layered and massive with velvety tannins in the mid palate, umeboshi plum, toffee, black currant cascade in waves amongst the velvet density the wine finishes beautifully with plum, cherry, truffle and black licorice.
What is Natural Wine?
Natural wines are made from organic vineyards and are made from nothing but grapes. Since the time of the ancient Egyptians sulfur has been added to wine post fermentation to allow the wine to age well and of course sulfur dioxide is produced naturally in all fermented products at very low levels.
With a natural wine we do not add anything but grapes. This we feel allows us to express the purest nature of our Mount Veeder Terroir at Châteauneuf du Pott. For six years in a row we’ve made exploratory wine trips to France and Germany primarily focusing on visiting natural wine producers. Most of what we tasted was totally flawed, undrinkable or mediocre but a very small number were excellent.
This got me excited about the possibilities of making a natural wine that would express the true nature of our organically farmed vineyard.

2021: Partially aged in Clay Amphora and Taransaud, Bossuet and Darnajou French oak barrels this is a new level of seriousness for our playful muse. Aromas of 100% Cabernet Franc from our Mt. Veeder Estate Vineyard: Wonderful floral notes intertwine with fruit and spice. In a Burgundy-style bottle.
The 2021 Agnes Sorel, with no added sulphur ... offers up savory notes of oolong tea, tar and baked plums with hints of crushed rock and sauteed herbs. The full-bodied palate is lively and refreshing, with vibrant black and red berry layers. (96) L. Perroti-Brown TWI
